Generate Excel reports with the same hierarchy being displayed in the Structure Board

Care-Colin - thanks, I see. I've posted http://jira.almworks.com/browse/HJ-553 specifically for this request.
I think XML export is a quite rarely needed feature so I can't tell when we get to work on it.
However, it's pretty easy to do, so any Atlassian consultant company can create a custom plugin for you that would extract data from Structure via Structure API and create the XML you need (or immediately the HTML or Word files).

Nobody's mentioned it here so I thought I would... I have tried (and been using) the XLS export and it is SWEET! Now... on to import? Scenario would be to upload to structure from either Excel or Project after defining projects...

Currently we're using custom development to generate HTML file from XML export then copy paste HTML into Word.
But not yet using structure.With structure we'll need to use two xml files (one for data, the other for structure) to generate HTML file.
Need to get more easily structure link (ie outside Admin part) still current. -
Care-Colin - thanks! How do you go from exported XML file/files to a word/pdf document?

Actually, if I'm able to reconciliate data from two XML (JIRA filter and Structure XML backup), my need (idea?) would then just be able to generate export outside administration part and store it on local computer instead of JIRA server.

Igor,
XML backup partially fullfill my need. (just had a look on it and found structure hierarchy, but not entry data) I think it has to be combined with standard JIRA export to get all the data.My need is, to use JIRA to store requirements. Structure plugin will generate hierarchy then being able to produce an organized document (word/pdf). In my case, I'v some JIRA entries repreeenting document title/sub-title... (up to 5 sublevels) other representing requirements => I need to be able to get this hierarchy *and* data (requirements)
Hope it's clearer. -
Care-Colin, currently JIRA admin can export all Structure data to an XML backup file. Also, a standalone JIRA plugin can be written to retrieve data from Structure and store it in any format.
Could you please describe your use case? What would you do with an XML representation of a structure?
Thanks!

Is it possible to have an XML export of structure? (xml more dedicated to represent hierarchical link)
eg :
<RootStructure/>
<Struct1Data.../>
<SubStruct1>
<SubStruct1Data.../>
<SubStruct1>
<RootStructure/>
Sorry if it's not the correct place.
Nevertheless XLS export is a good idea, looking forward to use it. -
The work on XLS export is almost completed and the feature will be included in the 1.4 release. If you want to try out a development version, please send a note to structure@almworks.com.
Please keep in mind that development versions are not production-ready, so please try them on your staging or non-critical servers.

Bill - thanks for the idea! We'll think about it, but let us implement export first :) Import is a lot more complicated due to possible conflicts with concurrent changes and some other problems.

IMPORT would be an added bonus! Use the same format as the exported CSV to read changes to existing or NEW structures. Of course, proper issue identification would be required.

Hi, Igor,
I think it is good idea - export structure to Excel with grouping/outline Excel features.
-
Ellen, thanks for the explanation!

Hi Igor,
Currently in JIRA there is no way (at least that I've been able to figure out) to generate a hierarchical view of issues. The Issue Search feature allows you to generate an Excel spreadsheet view of the issues, with either the columns from the current search or with all columns available, but the issues themselves can only be sorted by column, so the resulting spreadsheet does not show any relationships between the issues. I'd like the ability to at least export the columns from the current view with the hierarchy maintained, so that child issues are physically grouped under their parent. Even just indenting the summary with a single tab would help for presentation purposes, but a column that indicated the parent's id would be really helpful in making the data useful in other ways.
Thanks for looking into this.
Sincerely,

Ellen, thanks for your idea!
How would you like the hierarchy to be represented in Excel? Did you mean grouping/outline Excel features, or some text-based or cell-based representation?
Kind regards,
Igor
