group by date range
I would like to be able to group by 'due date' ranges. This would allow me to group tasks by milestones. In my case I would like to be able to group by quarter.
Available in Structure 4.0 – see comments for details.

Is this available for the Jira Cloud version?

Reviving an old ticket...
Have you guys considered adding dates as part of the native grouping selection? I understand we can add it by using a column, but then you are essentially duplicating data on screen, and you lose space to a column.

Hi Frank,
Sorry for delayed response - we've been out in Chicago :) Yes, you can have the names of the month. Just edit the format ("yyyy-MM") and replace "MM" with "MMM" (for short names) or "MMMM" (for full names).
Full list of format specifiers and some examples are here: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html (sorry if it's too technical).
Kind regards,

Just wanted to say this is extremely helpful. Any chance we can alias months numbers to names?

Thanks for the info Igor. That sounds like what I need. Love how generalized the Expr language is. Now we need to upgrade since we are running 3.5.0 :-)

Hi Jens, that is actually possible! You can group by almost anything by using Text Attribute Grouper in combination with Formula Column and Expr language -- the latter being available in Structure 4.
For your specific case, here's what you need to do:
1. Make sure you're running Structure 4.0 or later.
2. On Structure Board, add a new "Formula..." column.
3. Use the following formula: FORMAT_DATETIME(duedate, 'yyyy-MM')
4. Use Automation or Transformations to add a grouper, select "Text Attribute..." grouper.
5. When selecting an attribute, look out for "Used in Columns" group of attributes and find one named "Formula (in <your_column_name>)"
6. After the grouper is added, you can remove the column - it is not needed anymore. You can use the Expr language to define any other expression to group with. See details in https://wiki.almworks.com/x/K7jrAQ
Kind regards,
Igor
