allow me to define a story point budget for a folder / issue
I typically have rough estimates for bigger projects and I would like to be able to add them to the structure so that I can get an overview of what needs to be done. At the moment I can only do this by adding JIRA issues with estimates, but the problem is that at this stage I do not really want to create these issues yet (at least not for everything).
The closes thing to what I want is to create epics and set the rough estimates on the epics. Later I can refine my estimates by creating storys. The problem with this approach is that I need to reduce the story points of the epic or else the sum of the story points is too high. This of course also means that I loose my original estimate (budget).

We have a similar setup. The epics are created and estimated before the stories are available. The initial estimate is stored as original estimate in the epic. once the stories are created and estimated, the remaining estimate of the epic has to be reduced accordingly.
In the structure we have the stories under the epic and two columns (original estimate, sum remaining estimate). Like that we still have the original estimate of the epic, the true remaining estimate of the stories (plus a buffer on the epic if not all stories are added at the same time)
With Version 4.0 of Structure it is possible to have a special formula column that only shows the original estimate of the epic. Using Original Estimate, sum remaining estimate and the time spent we can even simply identify epics that are ahead or behind the initial plan.
However, the idea Stefan suggested would be a clean version for story points.
Stefan, thanks for the kind words! We're doing our best.
I hear you about folders -- we have plans to make them more flexible and add some properties, but we wouldn't go as far as making them comparable to issues in complexity. If you need that much, it's probably better just to create a special issue type.

Thanks for the quick feedback!
I also just thought it would be nice if a folder could be marked as done and maybe there are a few more things that would make sense.
Btw. really like Version 3.x of the plugin: A huge step forward.
This is a great idea, thanks! We thought about something like that too, where it comes to comparing top-down estimates with bottom-up. We'll see what we can do!
