    Kevin, thanks for the clarification.

It could be done with a synchronizer indeed, or even with just a StructureListener, but the problem is that there could be more than one structure, so you might need more than one custom fields.

Or it should be a very clever custom field with JavaScript code, which knows which structure is the current one. But that would mean that the field cannot be indexed and it won't be searchable.

So at the moment I don't see a clear path to exactly this feature in structure. On the other hand, we're going to release an "extensible columns" feature soon, which would allow to define a column in structure, which would display this value.

    Igor

Thanks - would you like to see that only inside structure (as a column), or also somewhere else (on the issue navigator search results table, on the issue page, etc)

Jeff, thanks for your suggestion! (Sorry for delayed response.)

I support this idea, but we're limited in what we can add to the top-level menu by the JIRA API. We'll think about how to solve this problem.

Meanwhile, the number of favorite structures displayed in the menu is regulated by the system property jira.max.issue.filter.dropdown.items - which also regulates the number of menu items in other places. (Max number of favorite items is N/2 - 1). See this page about this setting and how to change it: https://confluence.atlassian.com/x/d4S3Ew

Thanks for your suggestion! While we don't have this feature currently in our plan, we plan to enable customized CSS, which a JIRA admin or maybe a JIRA user would be able to set up for the JIRA instance / themselves. This would allow adding this kind of customization.

Please vote/watch https://jira.almworks.com/browse/HJ-648 to stay updated about the progress.

    Andrea, thanks for your feedback.

Am I right in assuming that you're using Filter synchronizer, and you need to reinstall it because your JQL changes to include a new project? In that case, you can just use "category = XYZ" JQL condition instead of "project in (...)".

    Would that solve the problem?

Thanks, that's a good idea! We have other, close related features planned - expanding/collapsing hierarchy to a specific level, and building a "representing" structure from another structure.

Lars, thanks for posting this idea. Could you please elaborate? I understand that this is about improving Agile synchronizer. How would you like it to work, exactly?

    Thanks!

Brian, thanks for your idea. We'll have a lot of changes in Structure 3.0 that might address this. If not, we also plan to schedule remake of the Search panel, which should include this change as well.

Also, in Structure 2.6 we'll release "Shared Perspectives" feature, which will let you to bookmark a specific URL that opens a given structure with a given view and a filter.

    Hello,

Thanks for your idea. This is quite ambitious and somewhat outside our current scope, but we might get to it later. One of the possible directions where Structure may evolve is organizing/structuring all kinds of artifacts, including Confluence pages.

Chris, thanks for your suggestion! Currently, only Progress column estimates "weight" of a sub-issue when calculating aggregate progress value. I agree an indicator would make things clearer in this case. (Plus maybe an option to turn off estimation and treat missing weight as 0, removing the sub-issue from the calculation.)

As for the numeric fields, there are no estimation involved. It just sums up the values.

Gerrie, thanks for your comment. So this is about Kanban board? There's less space there indeed. We'll keep this feedback in mind - we have another feature on the roadmap (selecting value from a structure for a category-type field), which could be close to this read-only displaying of the hierarchy.

Gerrie, thanks for your suggestion. We're going to review the way issues are added to a structure soon. Meanwhile, there's a workaround:

    1. Turn off pinned mode by clicking "View the Whole Structure"
    2. Find a place in the structure where you'd like to place the current issue
    3. You'll see a right panel with only the currently viewed issue. Drag it from that panel to the place where you want it to be. Alternatively, use Cut / Paste.

    Hope this helps!

Michel, thanks for your comments! We don't plan to integrate with MS Project, rather implement the required Project functionality in the Structure itself :) However, it's possible and a good idea to write a one-time migration tool from Project to JIRA/Structure. There are also a couple of plugins for integrating JIRA with Project, but as far as I know they don't support Structure.

As for the calculating the percentage, I'd love to discuss that - I'll send you an email.

    Thanks,
    Igor

Michel, thanks for your suggestion. I think a calculation like this requires some additional data, that's not there yet in JIRA and Structure. It's closer to Gantt charts, where each task has start/finish dates, whether calculated or manually set. Without that information, it's not clear how would one calculate predicted percentage -- if you have any ideas on that, I'll be happy to discuss.

We're planning to work on Gantt chart - related functionality in the future and will likely have Structure more apt to add this feature as well.

On a side note, currently it is possible to extend Structure functionality by adding new column types in a 3rd-party plugin. If you have developers who do custom plugins for your JIRA, they can create columns for Structure with any possible custom calculations.

Julie, thanks for your comment. I don't think delete protection is part of this feature, but I hear you. Currently your protection from inadvertent deletion is daily backups (I hope you have them turned on) - if needed, you can use Administration | Structure | Migrate Structure to restore specific structures from a backup.

And of course, don't give Admin permissions on a structure to more people than needed.

    Hope this helps! Igor

Jeff, thanks for the suggestion - I agree this would be useful.

BTW, currently clipboard is local to your browser tab. So if you really want to get rid of it without pasting, just open another tab with the same URL.

Roisin, thanks for your suggestion! But doesn't browser's "Back" link work for you? Additionally, you can click "Structure" link on the top navigation bar (sadly, in JIRA 6 you need to pull down the menu and click on the topmost item).

Also, we plan to have a separate panel that displays full details of a selected issue - see this idea: http://structure.uservoice.com/suggestions/2417699

Would that solve this problem as well?

Ruth, thanks for your comment! We'll also work on the "Preview" panel on the Structure Board, so you won't need to go to the issue panel OR to the issue navigator!

Thanks Peter - we'll work on this. Right now there's another issue to bulk edit selected issues in the structure: http://jira.almworks.com/browse/HJ-368

But it would bring the user directly to bulk edit page. We'll think how we can open Issue Navigator with the selection from Structure.

Ben, great suggestion, thanks! I'm not sure we can plug in into the JIRA's native integrity checker, but we surely can add "Structure Integrity Checker" page.

BTW, some integrity conditions are verified daily or on-request with Administration | Structure | Maintenance page, but it doesn't check for syncing with non-existent filters yet.

Rafael, thanks for your suggestion. It does make sense, although it might not address all possible cases, because the user may imply searching through all projects without actually expressing that in JQL. For example "created > 0d" would give only issues created in the last day in Structure-enabled projects, which might confuse the user who knows that issues in other projects also have been created.

Julie, thanks for the suggestion. I've taken the liberty to edit the name of the request to make it more specific. We'll work on this improvement in a future version.
